:: Ph.D. Program Information

The Ph.D. Program in Biomedical Sciences provides a multidisciplinary research and educational training experience for outstanding dentists and dental specialists who seek careers as educators and researchers in the oral health sciences. 

:: The specific objectives of the Ph.D. Program in Biomedical Sciences are:

  • To train advanced students in scientific methods and techniques necessary to conduct modern biological and clinical research.
  • To produce significant research accomplishments during the course of training.
  • To train advanced students to communicate academic knowledge and research findings to classroom and professional audiences.
  • To prepare the next generation of researchers and educators to join faculties of basic sciences and of clinical specialty departments in major research universities.
     

The program is designed especially for postgraduate dentists, including students with and without specialty certification, and those students conpresently pursuing clinical specialty certification.  Students with a BA or  BS degree only may transfer into the Ph.D. program after first entering and completing a portion of the requirements in the Master's Program of the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

:: Fields of Study

Concentrations available in the Ph.D. Program in Biomedical Sciences depend entirely on the availability of critical masses of research faculty and resources.  The present  foci of the program are in the areas of Craniofacial Biology and Stomatology
