Departmental
faculty interests run the gamut from phytochemicals and
regulation of feeding behavior to the role of dendritic
cells in cancer, genetics of caries-causing bacteria, and the genetics of tooth development.
An important focus of research is craniofacial biology,
with faculty spanning the spectrum from developmental
biology of corneal epithelium, sutures, palate, and temporomandibular
joint to the mechanical properties of craniofacial bone
and analysis of craniofacial growth in mutant and transgenic
animal models. One of the exciting new areas of research concerns identifying the genes involved with the development of craniofacial structures.
Departmental faculty provide all basic science instruction
to dental and dental hygiene students and to residents
in post-graduate dental specialty programs, as well as
graduate degree programs (MS, PhD) in Biomedical Sciences
awarded through the Texas A&M Health Sciences Center. |
